Body Contouring
Body Contouring after major weight loss
If you have undergone dramatic weight loss that has resulted in excess sagging skin, surgical body contouring may be the right procedure for you.
Weight loss, whether achieved by proper nutrition and proper exercise, as the result of bariatric surgery, or from other forms of medical treatment, has many benefits. However, once you reach weight loss goals, you may find that you still don't have the healthy body image you desire. Skin is loose, sagging and your body contours appear irregular and disharmonious.
Body contouring surgery reduces excess skin and fat that has remained or developed in multiple areas of the body. The surgery results in a smoother, more attractive reshaped body contour. This will be the final, important and rewarding phase of your challenge to have a healthier, more proportionate body, and can enhance your body image and self-confidence. However, before you decide to undergo body contouring surgery, it is important to understand that your weight loss must have stabilized. If you continue to lose weight, sagging skin will redevelop.
During your first consultation at our Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Nezami will first examine you to determine your general condition. Your body contouring will be individualized to your specific conditions, your goal and the regions to be treated. The procedures necessary to achieve your goals will be defined along with a plan for the timing of these procedures. Dr. Nezami will explain in detail the entire surgery, recovery time, complications, and the exact cost of the surgery.
Procedures that may be recommended for Body Contouring include:

- Face Lifts: to reduce sagging of the mid-face, jowls and neck
- Breast Lifts: to correct sagging, flattened breasts
- Tummy Tucks: to correct the apron of excess skin hanging over your abdomen
- Lower body lifts: to correct sagging of the abdomen, buttocks, groin and outer thighs
- Medial thigh lift: to correct sagging of the inner and mid thigh
- Brachioplasty: to correct sagging of the upper arms
Preparing for your Body Contouring Surgery
We advise our patients in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach to avoid taking certain medications such as aspirin and Ibuprofen and vitamin E. We advise them to stop smoking at least one moth before the surgery, if they are smokers. Smoking interferes with blood flow to the skin and prevents the rapid healing and will cause complication. At your pre-operation consultation you will be given specific and detailed instruction.
Incisions for Body Contouring Surgery
Body contouring is often performed in stages. You must accept that all body contouring requires incisions to remove excess skin. In many cases, these incisions may be extensive. Incision length and pattern depend on the amount and location of excess skin to be removed, as well as personal preference and surgical judgment. The scars are visible and permanent, but they will be placed in strategic locations where they can be hidden by most types of clothing and swimsuits, but this is not always the case, although usually well concealed beneath a swimsuit or bra.
Recovery period after Body Contouring surgery
Discomfort is well controlled by oral medication. A support garment is recommended after some of the procedures. You should engage in light walking as soon as possible to minimize the potential for blood clots and other complications. Initial wound healing may take 7 to 14 days, after which time sutures will be removed. A return to light activity is possible as soon as you feel ready, usually within a few days of surgery. You may be able to return to work and more normal activity in few weeks depending on the procedure, as long as you do not engage in any heavy lifting or vigorous exercise. Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling dissipates and breast shape and position settles. Keep in mind that recovery period varies from patient to patient. Numbness and firmness in some area will improve over time
Once you have completely recovered from one series of procedures, it may be time to begin preparing for additional procedures to target other areas of the face or body. The pink scar will remain but they will fade gradually after several months.
