Preparing for your Rhinoplasty - Nose Surgery
We advise our patients in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach to avoid taking certain medications such as aspirin and Ibuprofen and vitamin E. We advise them to stop smoking at least three weeks before the surgery, if they are smokers. Smoking interferes with blood flow to the skin and prevents the rapid healing of the incision. On your pre-operation consultation you will be given specific and detailed instruction.

The incision for Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty can be placed inside the nose or It can be an open technique. If the goal is narrowing of flared nostrils, the incision is on the base of the nose.

Duration of Rhinoplasty- Nose Surgery
In Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty the skin of the nose is separated from the bone and cartilage. The Bone is then sculpted to the desired shape. The excess cartilage is removed and the tip sculptured. The surgery will take usually between two to three hours.

You will see some swelling and bruising around your eyes. The bruising will gradually increase and will peak around the third day. Cold compress will reduce the swelling.

For the first twenty-four hours, you will feel puffy, your nose may ache, and you might have headache. You will be given pain medecine to control your pain and discomfort. After two days you are able to do your routine chores, but it will take two to three weeks for the bruising and swelling to disappear.
