These physical conditions can impair a women's ability to lead an active life in addition to physical pain, emotional discomfort and self-consciousness.

Before their breast reduction surgery patients will have some blood test done at Baptist Medical Center if needed.

Dr. Nezami believes that breast reduction is an artistic operation; it is not just taking out some breast tissue and making the volume of the breast smaller. The objective is to have breasts that are proportionate with patient's figure and body and have aesthetically pleasing shape and contour with attention to the symmetry.

In our Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Nezami spend about an hour just to precisely mark the location of the nipples, the incisions and the tissue to be removed to create breasts that have good shape and contour and are symmetrical. During the operation he never rushes the surgery. He will spend as much time as needed to achieve the best possible result with no complication. We take pride in the excellent results that our patients see after their cosmetic surgery. Quite often we see women for revision who had settled for less quality result than what they could have obtained because they selected faster, less experienced or cheaper surgeon.

Breast reduction is surgical removal of the excess breast and fatty tissue and skin that contribute to large and pendulous breasts. The most common approach is a keyhole incision pattern. The nipple-areola is repositioned higher at the normal position, but remains attached to its original blood supply and nerve. The areola is reduced in size. The incisions are brought together to reshape the new smaller breast. Deep dissolvable sutures are used to support the newly shaped breasts. Only few external sutures and surgical tape close the top skin. Occasionally, for extremely large pendulous breasts, the nipple and areola may need to be removed from their blood supply and grafted. In any case, the incision lines are around the areola, from the areola down to the crease line and on the crease line under the breast. These scars are visible early on but will fade over time. The scars are permanent, although minimal and usually well concealed beneath a swimsuit or bra.

Recovery period after Breast Reduction

Discomfort is well controlled by oral medication. A support bra is recommended around the clock for the first few weeks. You should engage in light walking as soon as possible to minimize the potential for blood clots and other complications. A return to light activity is possible as soon as you feel ready, usually within a few days of surgery. You may be able to return to work and more normal activity within 10 days, as long as you do not engage in any heavy lifting or vigorous exercise. Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling dissipates and breast shape and position settles. Keep in mind that recovery period varies from patient to patient.

For three weeks you should avoid raising your elbows higher than your armpit. The pink scar will remain but they will fade gradually after several months.
