The Benefits of Botox | What Botox Can Do For You!

Tired of frown lines and wrinkles making you look older and angry? You’re not alone. Crow’s feet and frown lines are the cause of discontent among many of our patients.

And the bad news is that as we age, we will all develop wrinkles. As we get older, our skin becomes less elastic. That means that if you pinch your cheek or the skin on your hand, it will take longer for that skin to return to place than during your younger years.

Aging also makes your skin drier and thinner. In turn, this makes it harder for your skin to protect itself against damage. This is when wrinkles start to appear. While wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process, they can also be caused by smoking, dehydration, a variety of medications and of course, sun damage.

The good news is that there is a fast and easy solution to combating wrinkles; “Botox Injections”.

What is Botox?

The word ‘Botox’ is short for botulinum toxin, which is derived from bacteria called Clostridium botulinum.

One of the most common questions we get asked here at Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center is, “Is Botox safe”? While we strongly suggest that Botox should be dispensed by a trained, reputable professional, we can say that when administered correctly, that yes, Botox Injections are quite safe. In fact Botox Injections are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and have been classified as safe for use in treating wrinkles on adults under the age of 65.

Botox Injections are administered in a variety of locations; from cosmetic surgery centers, doctor’s office, spas and hair salons, and even at “Botox parties”. At Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, Botox injection are administered by Dr. Nezami himself and our trained nurse practitioner.  Be sure to visit our Botox Injections Before and After Photo Gallery.

So, what can Botox do for me?

Botox Before and After PhotosWhen injected into the muscle, Botox (or botulinum toxin) temporarily freezes and paralyzes the facial muscles, which aids in wrinkle elimination. In a nutshell, Botox Injections can help you achieve the smooth and rejuvenated complexion you’ve always dreamed of.

At Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery we typically use 33 units of Botox to treat the forehead area, frown lines and around the eyes. Botox can also be used to contour eyebrows into a more pleasing shape.

Interestingly, excessive sweating can be treated with Botox. Botox is simply injected into the sweat glands by a trained physician. This temporarily paralyzes the glands and reduces perspiration. Botox injections are also used to treat certain type of an headaches.

While some patients experience slight discomfort during Botox Injections (which can be alleviated with local anesthetic cream), it is one of the most comfortable procedures for rejuvenating the face and looking younger. You can return to your regular life almost immediately. Common side effects include headaches, nausea, bruising, flu-like symptoms, redness and temporary tenderness.

How long does Botox last?

It takes around a week for the full effect of Botox Injections to appear. After this, the result will last for around three to four months, at which point the wrinkles will begin reappearing.
