We all want glowing, beautiful and healthy looking skin. But how many of us actually know how to achieve it?

At Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, we use state of the art technology combined with a specially crafted program and years of experience to help you get the stunning, picture perfect skin you've always dreamed of.

Why is skin care so important?

Healthy skin is the cornerstone of a youthful appearance and can significantly impact your confidence and self-esteem. But exposure to the sun and wind as well as toxins and chemicals apparent in everyday products can damage your skin and cause premature skin aging, pigmentation and wrinkles.

To combat these problems, an effective skin care regime is required.

At our Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, we have formulated a comprehensive and effective skin care program designed to help you achieve healthy, radiant skin.

Our innovative skin care program

Our skin care program includes the following elements as well as our range of effective and fast-acting skin care products.

Laser IPL Photofacial Treatments for the Elimination of Sun Spots, Freckles, Age Spots, and Pigmented Lesions

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial treatment is a preventative anti-aging procedure that uses advanced pulsed light technology to remove a variety of skin imperfections while slowing down the aging process. At Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, we use a Palomar Star Lux 500 to treat pigmented lesions.

Specially filtered bands of light target the melanin in pigmented lesions; there, the light is converted into heat. This heating selectively destroys the pigmented lesion, which is sloughed away within two weeks. Large areas of the body can be treated with little discomfort, requiring no recovery time. Most skin types can be treated safely. This rejuvenation technique is effective on the face, arms, chest, and other large body areas.

Damage caused by years of sun exposure can also be mitigated through this procedure. The treated sun spots and other sun damaged areas will darken within a few hours and flake off in about one week. A minimum of three treatments is required in order to achieve complete eradication of sun spots.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a popular, non-invasive treatment that works by exposing a controlled flow of micro crystals to the skin. The theory behind this procedure is that the crystals remove the outermost layers of the skin, which then initiates the healing process and helps boost the reproduction of new skin cells.

Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for blackheads, sun damage freckles, acne scars and sunspots. The procedure lasts around 45-minutes and the end result is smoother, younger looking skin.

Unlike other procedures, there is no downtime after having a microdermabrasion treatment and you can normally return to your regular activities the very same day. The only recommendation we have is that you use sun block for at least the three days following your microdermabrasion treatment.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peel

This powerful anti-aging treatment uses Alpha Hydroxy Acid to reverse sun damage, mild skin aging, photo aging and acne scarring. Studies have shown that Alpha Hydroxy Peels can increase skin thickness and improve collagen production and skin elasticity, resulting in smoother and firmer skin.

Like microdermabrasion, Alpha Hydroxy Peels work by removing the outer most layers of dead skin.

Patients may experience some peeling, redness and flaking for a few weeks following the treatment, which is completely normal and part of the process.

Retinol

Retinol, which is a derivative of vitamin A, is a highly acclaimed and effective skin care product that has been proven to decrease the appearance of acne and acne scarring, fine and superficial wrinkles and age spots as well as improve skin softness and brightness.

Retinol is extremely effective, but does need to be managed correctly. Used incorrectly (or with too high a dosage too soon) retinol can cause skin dryness and irritation. With the right advice and guidance however, retinol is a perfectly safe and effective treatment.

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid)

Research has found that one topical agent that has been shown to be especially effective with anti-aging and skin rejuvenation is vitamin C, otherwise known as L-ascorbic acid. This substance is a naturally occurring topical compound that is renowned for its antioxidant properties.

What this means is that not only does vitamin C boost the synthesis of collagen, but its antioxidant properties also decrease skin damage.

And while studies done on the effectiveness of vitamin C have been extremely positive, it has also been discovered that when exposed to air, and in any form other than dry, vitamin C can become very unstable and ineffective. This is important to consider when choosing a skin care product that contains vitamin C.

At Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, we have deliberately and consciously taken these points into consideration, in addition to the fact that the concentration of L-ascorbic acid is widely varied in various products. For this reason, we recommend products containing Vitamin C cream for our patients that we are satisfied with both the concentration of L-ascorbic acid and effectiveness of the vitamin C apparent.

Copper Peptides

The cosmetic benefits of copper peptide use has been known since the 1970s when Dr. Loren Pickart discovered that these materials, which are essentially fragments of proteins, can heal wounds and skin lesions.

Today, copper peptides are used not only to heal wounds, scars and injured skin tissue, but they are also effective in preventing future skin damage and slowing down the visible signs of skin aging. Copper peptides stimulate collagen production and can decrease the appearance of wrinkles.

We recommend Copper Peptides as part of our overall skin rejuvenation program as we have seen how effective and valuable this treatment can be.
