Dr. A.H. Nezami a board certified plastic surgeon and founder of Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center has been performing Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) and Body Contouring for the past 31 years in Jacksonville with an impeccable record. The credit goes to Dr. Nezami's surgical skills, experience and his meticulousness nature.
We can easily loose our youthful flat tummy due to the aging process, weight gain, lack of exercise, childbearing or heredity.
Tummy Tuck surgery can correct overstretched sagging skin of the abdomen and tightens abdominal muscles and remove excess fat. The result of the surgery is flatter and firmer abdomen. Patients are happy seeing an improvement in their physical appearance, enhancing their self-image and self-confidence.
In our Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Nezami advises his patients that are on a weight loss plan to wait until the end of their weight loss program before having their Abdominoplasty. Weight loss causes the abdominal skin to become loose. If you have lost your skin elasticity, it is less likely that your skin will tighten to the original form. The excess skin must be removed surgically.
For additional safety and 24 hours observation, after abdominoplasty surgery we keep our patients from Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach and out of state overnight at Baptist Medical Center, Downtown. They will be transferred directly from our Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, which is located in Baptist Medical Center Complex to their hospital room on a stretcher. This is to prevent complications from early stretching abdominal skin or muscles causing separation of suture line and bleeding. Trained hospital nurses will provide 24-hour care and supervision for our tummy tuck patients. The cost of this overnight observation is included in the total cost analysis sheet that is given to you at your consultation with Dr. Nezami.
If you have only loose skin in lower part of abdomen, below your umbilicus (belly button), you may be the right candidate for mini-Abdominoplasty. After pregnancy or weight loss if you are left with only loose skin of lower abdomen, then mini tummy tuck can tighten the skin of the lower abdomen by removal of excess skin. The incision is less invasive and shorter in case of mini tummy tuck than the standard tummy tuck.
If the loose skin and excess fat are extensive and you have bulging of the abdomen due to separation of muscles, you will probably need standard tummy tuck. In a standard tummy tuck the entire abdominal wall and skin will be tightened, but the incision is longer and there is incision around the umbilicus. Standard Abdominoplasty usually will take two to three hours.
If you have excess skin and the excess fat goes around the waistline along with laxity in your abdominal muscles, then you will need an extended tummy tuck. Dr. Nezami will remove the excess fat, skin and will tighten the abdominal muscles. Dr. Nezami will take extreme care that the scars are as a fine line as possible.

We advise our patients in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach to avoid taking certain medications such as aspirin and Ibuprofen and vitamin E. We advise them to stop smoking at least three weeks before the surgery, if they are smokers. Smoking interferes with blood flow to the skin and causes delayed healing and complications. During your pre-operation consultation you will be given specific and detailed instructions for preparation for your abdominoplasty surgery.
The incision is made across the lower abdomen above the pubic area below the bikini line. Another incision is placed around the belly button. The skin and fat are lifted from the muscle to the level of the lower ribs. After the muscles are tightened, the skin and the fat are pulled down and removed. A new opening will be made for the belly button and the incision is closed with absorbable sutures and just a few external sutures. The sutures will be removed after 4 to 5 days.

This is a frequent question asked by our patients in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach. In Tummy Tuck surgery when the abdominal muscles are tightened, the pain is more intense than if only excess skin and fat is removed. The pain can be controlled by intravenous pain medication and then by oral medications. The pain is most felt the first few days. After tummy tuck surgery you need to move your legs frequently and walk to prevent blood clot, but for the first week you should walk or stand with your back flexed at the hip about 30 degrees or as instructed by your plastic surgeon to prevent too much pull on the suture line.
Every person heals differently. There are a number of products on the market that can help the tissue to heal better and faster such as vitamin E, cortisone creams, silicone creams, Mederma cream and silicone sheets.
It will take you several weeks to have a complete recovery. Recovery after tummy tuck surgery varies from one person to another, it might take between two to four weeks. Q. I am planning to have more children, should I have my tummy tuck now?
A. No, it is better to postpone your abdominoplasty surgery and have your tummy tuck when you have no longer plan to become pregnant. Pregnancy will cause stretching of skin and separation of the muscles.
Q. Should I stop taking my medications before my abdominoplasty surgery?
A. We advise our patients in Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach to avoid taking certain medication such as aspirin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, and any other medication that can affect the blood clotting system for two weeks before and after surgery (If you are taking any blood thinner, do not stop until you get authorization from the doctor who prescribed it). During your consultation we will give you a list of medications that you should avoid taking two weeks before surgery and after surgery. Do not stop your prescribed medication until you check with your doctor.
Q. Can I take shower after my tummy tucks surgery?
A. You cannot take a shower before 4 to 5 days following your abdominoplasty surgery or until the drains are removed, but you may sponge bathe or use hand held shower. You may not take bath or swim for 4 weeks or until every thing is healed.
Q. How soon can I travel after my abdominoplasty surgery?
A. You can travel 2 weeks after your abdominoplasty surgery, but during the travel you should stand and walk for short distance every 30 minutes to prevent blood clot.
Q. Do I need someone to stay with me after my abdominoplasty surgery?
A. Absolutely, Dr. Nezami recommends that someone must stay with you for the first 3 days or as long as you are taking strong pain medications to prevent overdose or accidental fall and to assist you to get up and move.
Q. When can I drive after my abdominoplasty surgery?
A. We advise our patients in Jacksonville not to drive before 5 to 7 days, and definitely not while they are taking pain medications.
Q. Do I need to go under general anesthesia for my tummy tuck procedure?
A. Yes, general anesthesia is needed for abdominoplasty.
Q. When can I go back to work after my abdominoplasty procedure?
A. Two weeks after your procedure you should be able to go to work.
Q. How long will my abdominoplasty surgery take?
A. The length of surgery depends on the extent of the surgery and if muscles are tightened. In our Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, Dr. Nezami typically spends 3 to 5 hours.
Q. How do I know if I need tummy tuck or liposuction?
A. If you have already tried diet and exercise without much success, and you have
good skin elasticity and no hanging skin and localized excess fat, you are the right
candidate for liposuction . If you have hanging skin and poor skin elasticity and
loose muscles tummy tuck is the right procedure for you.
Q. Is tummy tuck surgery permanent? Will the fat removed comes back?
A. The fat cells that are removed will not come back. They are gone forever. However if you gain weight the existing fat cells will become larger and stretch the skin.
Q. How can I maintain my flat belly after tummy tucks surgery?
A. Since abdominoplasty does not provide a permanent solution to weight gain you need to
keep exercising and have a healthy and balanced diet.
Q. Is male abdominoplasty different than a woman's abdominoplasty?
A. Male patient's aesthetical goal is different than a woman, but the abdominoplasty surgery is the same.
Q. Does insurance pay for my abdominoplasty after massive weight loss?
A. Most insurance companies consider tummy tucks as a cosmetic procedure. If the hanging skin and fat causes frequent open wound and infection under the fold that is difficult to treat, then some insurance may approve the surgery. If there is a true ventral hernia ( not just separation of muscles called diastasis recti ) the insurance will cover only the part of surgery for the repair of hernia.
